SIA Qualifications are changing… but Churchill Support Services is ready

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is making some changes to their licensing and training which will come into effect later on this year…but Churchill Support Services is ready to support our officers in obtaining the qualifications they need.

Responsible for regulating the private security industry in the UK, the SIA is updating and strengthening their licensing to ensure the highest standards are upheld across the sector. Let’s have a quick look at the changes that are happening and how they will affect security officers.

  • Changes Coming Into Effect 01 April 2021

From 01 April 2021, SIA will be introducing updated qualifications for all areas of the industry except Close Protection.
Officers will also have to hold a first aid qualification before they can undertake training for a Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence.

  • Changes Coming Into Effect on 01 October 2021

After this date, SIA will introduce updated Close Protection qualifications.
Officers must also have one of the new qualifications or undertake top-up training before applying for a Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence.

To ensure our officers stay up to date with the latest qualifications and training, Churchill Support Services is supporting all our on-the-ground officers in obtaining the latest updates to their licence. As part of our ‘people first’ approach, we’ll be offering the Emergency First Aid course, free of charge, to all our officers for the remainder of this calendar year, ensuring they’ll have the required skills and qualifications to satisfy the changing requirements and to continue providing safe and dependable security to all our customers.

We understand that supporting our colleagues in their on-going learning and development is vital to the continued success of Churchill Support Services. That’s why this initiative will also be rolled out to all new officers joining Churchill Support Services up until 31st December 2021, so all our new officers can update their qualifications and top-up their training to hit the ground running here at Churchill.
