Churchill Support Services: 2021 in Review

With Christmas fast approaching, we’ll soon be saying goodbye to 2021 and hello to 2022… and we’re greeting the new year in style by celebrating our company achievements in 2021. All in all, it’s been a good year for Churchill Support Services. With covid restrictions and lockdowns, it’s been an uncertain and stressful time…but the entire Churchill team has continued to put their best foot forward and bring our virtues of Passion, Humility and People First to every customer, each and every day.

So, without further ado, here’s Churchill Support Services top moments of 2021:

Becoming Churchill Support Services

2021 was the year that we went from Churchill Security to Churchill Support Services, a name that better reflects the wide variety of services we offer. Whilst security is still one of our biggest and most popular services, we now also offer cleaning solutions, facilities management, and energy comparisons. Rebranding to Churchill Support Services better encompasses all the corporate services we offer.

Launching Our Circle of Excellence Awards

This year saw the launch of our Circle of Excellence awards, a scheme designed to recognise and reward our colleagues for their hard work and commitment. Churchill employees can nominate their colleagues for 4 different awards, including Demonstration of Virtues, Outstanding Act, Service Excellence and Service Partner Award. This year’s winners were:

  • John Gregory, Deputy Regional Business Manager North
  • Zia Rehman at Acushnet Europe
  • Jamie Maginness, Regional Business Manager South
  • Iqbal Mohamed, Burmeister Ellesmere Port

Investing in Apprenticeships

Despite the difficulties of running a business during a global pandemic, we were still looking to expand our team and develop talent. 2021 was the year we really focused on investing in apprenticeships, giving practical and hands-on experience to apprentices in marketing, sales, and administration. All our apprentices have fitted in well here at Churchill, and we’re excited to see how they continue to grow in 2022.

Adapting to New Ways of Working

2021 saw some return to normality but the first half of the year was still affected by COVID restrictions and lockdowns. Whilst most of our on-the-ground security officers were able to carry on working as normal, our office-based staff had to adapt to working from home, as well as switching between office and home working as restrictions lifted. We’re hoping to continue offering flexible working options to our employees in 2022, with technology at the heart of this strategy.

Launching Our New Internal Training

In our industry, offering continuous development and training opportunities is essential for the safety of our employees and clients. In 2021, we launched our new internal training platform, offering a range of courses in health and safety, including first aid, to all our security officers and office staff. The new platform centralises training and development in one place and allows us to keep track of our officers’ certifications, so we know that we’re deploying highly trained staff to protect our customers.

Receiving Our Highest ACS Score Yet!

Despite all the challenges of 2021, we’re delighted to announce that we received our highest ACS score yet, scoring an amazing 144 out of 145! Over the last few years, we’ve transformed many aspects of the business- and it’s certainly paid off. This score means that we now rank in the top 0.1% of ACS approved companies, making Churchill Support Services a true leader in the security industry.

Bouncing Back From COVID

It’s safe to say that COVID-19 impacted businesses of all shapes and sizes- and Churchill Support Services was certainly no exception. In 2020, we certainly lost out on business, as events were cancelled and businesses looked to economise and save money. In 2021, we were able to bounce back from this dip, adapting our service offerings to suit the demands of the market with things like social distance marshalling and COVID-19 cleaning solutions.

Supporting Returning Events

2020 was a terrible year for events, with social events, big and small, cancelled due to COVID-19. In 2021, restrictions were slowly lifted and more events were able to take place. We were pleased to see the event industry get back on its feet and were more than happy to support these events with traditional security, as well as extra covid measures.

Raising Money for Charity

Every year, we make it our mission to raise money for a chosen charity. This year, our dedicated charity was Children with Cancer and our staff held several events to raise money for this amazing cause. Luke and Andy cycled coast to coast (over 100 miles!), raising an amazing £4000. Not satisfied with this gruelling physical challenge, Luke also helped raise money by shaving off his beloved quiff!

Celebrating Our Colleagues Success

Ending 2021 on a high, our Head of Operations, Luke Toker, has been selected as a finalist at this year’s Outstanding Security Performance Awards. Nominated for the Outstanding Young Professional Award by his colleagues here at Churchill, Luke could be the lucky winner of this OPSA in 2022. Andy Farley, Operations Director of Churchill Support Services, commented: “Everyone at Churchill Support Services is absolutely delighted for Luke to have achieved finalist status at the OSPAs 2022. The recognition is thoroughly deserved.”

So those were our highlights from 2021! A big thank you to all the Churchill team who have helped make all this happen and more! Happy New Year everyone! We’ll see you in 2022 for another amazing year.
