Churchill Support Services: 2022 In Review

With the New Year fast approaching, we’ll soon be saying goodbye to 2022 and hello to 2023.. and what a better way to start the new year then by celebrating our company achievements in 2022.

With the end of COVID restrictions and the start of the cost-of-living crisis, it’s been a testing time for everyone in the UK, but the team at Churchill Support Services have continued to put their best foot forward and bring our virtues of Humility, Passion and People First to every single one of our customers, each and every day.

So, without further ado, here’s Churchill Support Services top moments of 2022:

The Appointment of a Managing Director

We started the year with the exciting appointment of our new Managing Director, John Melling.

John began his career in security back in 2008 as a field officer, providing on-site security for retail and hospitality businesses. In 2011, he joined at that time what was known as Churchill Security Limited as a supervisor. From there, his career really began to take off.

By 2018, John was promoted as a Director of the business responsible for Sales and Marketing. After a successful 10 years of growing the business, in February 2022 John was appointed as Managing Director for Churchill Support Services to provide a strategic approach to the company’s growth direction and desires to explore M&A.

Since his appointment, John has already made a positive impact to the business, it’s people and clients. We’re looking forward to witnessing his success over the next many years to come and the continued growth of the business.

Retained Our Highest Ever ACS Score

Back in 2021, we were proud to receive our highest ever ACS score of 144 out of 145! Over the last few years, we’ve transformed many aspects of our business and it’s certainly paid off. This score means we rank in the top 0.1% of ACS Approved companies.

In March 2022, after an extremely thorough audit, we were delighted to announce that we had retained our highest ACS score for the second year running. Our teams across all areas of the business, including our security officers on the ground, continue to work incredibly hard to ensure Churchill Support Services remain as industry leaders. Well done to everyone involved.

Return of the Events Season Following COVID

With COVID restrictions finally coming to an end, it was the return of our busiest season of the year. The past two years have been difficult for trading with the loss of the events season, as it has been for businesses of all types and sizes across the world, but we truly came back with a bang.

This summer, we provided security for over 500 events across the country, deployed over 4,000 security guards who worked over 32,000 hours to protect every type of event. We were incredibly lucky to work with some large prestigious customers for high profile events, which involved a lot of attention to detail to minimise the security risks posed. We are delighted that all of the customers we worked with over the summer ran some extremely successful events, and we’re really looking forward to working with them all again in 2023!

Number of Internal Promotions

Churchill Support Services are truly committed to developing our people and nurturing talent and this year we made several internal promotions within the business.

Not only do we have an incredible story from our Managing Director John Melling, but we have many successful stories throughout the business.

Luke Toker promoted to Director of Corporate Accounts
Luke Toker joined Churchill Support Services in December 2018 as National Operations Manager. After implementing successful strategies and making a great impact to our Operational delivery across the UK, Luke ventured a new opportunity in October 2022 joining the Business Development team to influence organic business growth. Despite only joining the team a couple of months ago, Luke has hit the ground running and has already won some incredible long-term contracts with great large blue-chip customers.

Liam O’Connor promoted to Head of Strategy, Operations and Business Communications
Liam O’Connor joined the business in December 2018 as Control Room Manager working alongside Luke Toker. Liam’s journey with the business over the last 4 years has been incredible, and in return, he was recently promoted to Head of Strategy, Operations and Business Communications taking on the overall accountability for the Operations Team alongside both the Communications Centre and Communications Team. Liam has made multiple successful and positive changes to our business processes and operations and is recognised as a great leader to the wider business.

John Gregory promoted to National Events and Project Manager
After joining the business in April 2016 as a Control Room Assistant, John Gregory has had a successful journey with Churchill over the last few years. John has had a number of internal promotions in line with his learning and development, including Security Supervisor, Regional Contracts Executive, Deputy Regional Business Manager and finally, National Events and Projects Manager.

John has dedicated his time to various projects across the business, and in line with the return of the events season, the business required a dedicated manager to oversee the events and projects. Working alongside some high-profile prestige events this Summer, John has run some of our most successful projects to date and continues to do so over the Winter months.

Continued to Raise Funds for Charity

Every year, we make it our mission to raise as much money we can for our chosen charities. This year we took part in ‘Wear it Pink’ Day to support Breast Cancer Awareness month raising a total of £250. We raised £60 for Children in Need, took part in a ‘beach clean-up’ and donated a large amount of food to the local food bank.

In line with our CSR objectives, we have a lot of exciting charity days planned in for 2023, including a large charity event in June 2023 which multiple of our head office staff will be taking part in. Keep an eye out on our socials to see what we will be doing next!

Further Commitment to Our Acquisitions Strategy

This year, we have heavily invested towards our Mergers and Acquisitions strategy, and we are committed to the hard work identifying suitable potential businesses that we’d like to acquire or have synergies with.

This has been something Churchill has focused on over the last couple of years, and we will have some exciting updates coming in the new year.

Circle of Excellence Awards for 2022

Last year, we saw the launch of our new reward and recognition programme ‘Circle of Excellence awards’. The Circle of Excellence awards is a scheme designed to recognise and reward our colleagues for their hard work and commitment. Churchill employees and customers can nominate their colleagues for four different awards: Demonstration of Virtues, Outstanding Act, Service Excellence and Service Partner Award.

This year, we have received so many fantastic nominations but unfortunately, we could only choose one winner per category for each of our financial year quarters. We’re delighted to announce our 2022 winners are:

Anthony Stokes – Service Excellence

Liam O’Connor – Service Excellence

Tracey Kearn – Demonstration of Virtues

Scott Russell – Demonstration of Virtues

Well done to you all!

Outstanding Security Professional Awards (OSPA’s) Finalists for the Second Year Running

To round off a fantastic year of success and celebrations, we are extremely proud to announce we have been selected as finalists in two categories for the 2023 OSPA’s. Churchill Support Services been selected as a finalist for ‘Outstanding Security Guarding Company’ and our very own Liam O’Connor and Scott Russell have both been selected as individual finalists for ‘Outstanding Young Security Professional’.

This is the second year running as finalists, as we attended the 2022 OSPA’s with our very own Luke Toker who was selected for ‘Outstanding Young Security Professional’. We had a great time celebrating alongside some large competitors, and we are all looking forward to attending the finals again in February 2023. We wish all the selected finalists the best of luck!

So these were our highlights from 2022! A big thank you to all the Churchill team and customers who have helped make all this happen and more! Happy New Year Everyone and we’ll see in 2023 for another amazing year.
